Varsity boys place eighth, fresh-soph squad takes third

SYCAMORE — The Hubs varsity track and field team placed eighth out of 11 high schools at Sycamore’s 2018 Gary Egler Boys Indoor Invitational on Wednesday. Rochelle’s varsity squad scored 13 points in the meet, while the Hubs fresh-soph team took third place out of nine schools with 65 points.

Junior Noah Knight finished tied for seventh overall in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.13 seconds, while senior DiQuan Ishmon clocked in at 7.69 for 14th place. Knight also placed sixth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.11, while junior Dylan Robinson ran a 28.19 to finish 15th.

Seniors Austin Tracey (1:00.57) and Ben Pflipsen (1:02.52) placed ninth and 10th, respectively, in the 400-meter dash on Wednesday. Junior Connor Lenkaitis earned fourth place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:17.00. Rochelle’s 640-meter relay team (Knight, junior Alex Louck, junior Eddie Villalobos and Tracey) placed sixth with a time of 1:21.47.

The Hubs took fifth in the 1600-meter relay with a time of 4:01.45 behind Louck, Lenkaitis, junior Greg Ricketts and Tracey. Junior Mason DeLille cleared 5-1 in the high jump to finish tied for 10th place, while Tracey (7-6) and sophomore Saul Alanis (7-6) took seventh and eighth in the pole vault.

DeLille landed in sixth place with a leap of 18-3 in the long jump, and DeLille’s length of 37-11 earned him sixth place in the triple jump. Senior Bazil Bennett’s heave of 42-1 in the shot put netted him fifth place, and Ricketts took seventh with a toss of 40-5.

Fresh-Soph

Sophomore Evan Horner ran the 55-meter dash in 7.42 for seventh place, and sophomore Jacob Eul’s time of 7.91 earned him 15th place. Sophomore Parker Hale’s time of 28.32 in the 200-meter dash put him in ninth place overall, while sophomore Riley Patrick (28.82) finished 13th.

Horner finished first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.60, with sophomore Diego Escobar taking seventh with a time of 1:03.04. Sophomore Zach Akey placed fifth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:30.14, and sophomore Tucker Louis took seventh in 2:34.06.

Also winning for the Hubs was sophomore Gyvanziel Quinonez who took first in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:02.86. Sophomore Santi Cordoba finished eighth in 5:55.10, and Cordoba placed third in the 3200-meter run with a time of 12:01.40. Sophomore Brayden Bonilla ran the 55-meter hurdles in 12.74 for 10th place.

Rochelle finished fifth in the 640-meter relay (1:27.43) behind freshman Lazaro Gutierrez, freshman Dominic Williams, Horner and sophomore Joseph Luna. The Hubs finished fourth in the 1600-meter relay (4:05.39) with sophomore Ben Hickey, Horner, freshman Trevor Goodwin and Quinonez.

Hickey (5-3) placed third in high jump while Williams (5-1) took seventh. Sophomore Aaron Vondergathen (7-0) and Akey (6-6) placed fifth and sixth in pole vault, while Goodwin placed fifth in long jump (17-1) and first in the triple jump (37-8.50). Williams (33-9) was fourth in triple jump, and sophomore George Rodriguez ended 12th in shot put at 30-11
