Girls Soccer: Tarvestad signs with Kishwaukee College

Rochelle senior intending to study nursing
ROCHELLE — Senior defender Abby Tarvestad has seen her skills on the soccer field grow over her three seasons with the Rochelle Lady Hub varsity soccer team. Tarvestad will continue her athletic career and her academics at Kishwaukee College, where she intends to study nursing while playing soccer for the Lady Kougars. Tarvestad becomes the latest of a growing number of Rochelle Township High School athletes continuing on with Kishwaukee College.
“I chose Kishwaukee College because it’s a quality school that’s close to home and it has a good program for the field I want to pursue,” Tarvestad said. “I’m looking forward to meeting new teammates and furthering my knowledge and skills. Rochelle has given me the opportunity to really start my career in soccer and I’ve been able to grow with my team throughout the years.”
Tarvestad has played soccer at RTHS for the last three years, with all three seasons coming on the varsity team. The senior helped the Lady Hubs to a 10-10 record as well as their first victory in an IHSA Regional tournament since 2009. Tarvestad will be one of many seniors returning for the varsity team this spring, where the Lady Hubs look to build on their success from 2022.
“I think I’ve improved on understanding the technicality of the game and it’s helped me become more aware during games and practices,” Tarvestad said. “I’m hoping to improve on that going forward and apply that improvement to my skills. I’m hoping this season that I can improve on every aspect that comes with the game and I hope that as a team, we can learn from each other throughout the season. I’m hoping we can all say that we improved by the end of the season.”
In addition to three years with the soccer program, Tarvestad spent four years with the Rochelle Lady Hub tennis program, starting two seasons on the varsity team and earning Interstate 8 Academic All-Conference honors during her junior and senior seasons. Tarvestad, who was also named the Most Improved Player Award winner during her junior tennis season, also received Interstate 8 Academic All-Conference recognition during her junior soccer season at RTHS.
