ROCKFORD — The Rockford Auburn offense proved too difficult to contain when the Rochelle varsity girls soccer team began nonconference play on the road Monday evening. While Auburn only compiled 12 shots on goal, the Knights converted on 10 of those chances, topping the Lady Hubs by a score of 10-1 to drop Rochelle to 2-6-1 on the season. The Lady Hubs finished with nine shots on goal.
Auburn took a 2-0 lead over Rochelle with goals in the first and sixth minutes before adding back-to-back goals in the 22nd and 27th minutes to lead 4-0. Four more Knight goals in the 31st, 36th and two in the 40th minute put Auburn ahead 8-0 by halftime.
The Knights surged ahead 9-0 with a goal in the 53rd minute before Rochelle senior Olivia Piloni broke the shutout with a goal in the 56th minute. Piloni has recorded all six Lady Hub goals over the team’s last four games. Auburn added an insurance goal in the 57th minute before the shortened clock expired. Junior Viviana Belmonte had two saves for the Lady Hubs.
