Girls Soccer: Lady Hub defense battles against Streator-Woodland

Torres records 18 saves as Rochelle falls 2-1 on Tuesday

STREATOR — Freshman Deissy Torres recorded a season-best 18 saves when the Rochelle Lady Hub varsity soccer team faced Streator-Woodland in nonconference action Tuesday evening. Despite a valiant defensive effort and another goal from sophomore midfielder Makayla Lara, Rochelle fell just short against the Bulldogs, losing 2-1. Sophomore defender Anahi Cervantes totaled one assist for the Lady Hubs (2-2, 0-0 Interstate 8) in the loss.

Streator-Woodland held a 23-4 shot advantage as well as a 20-4 advantage in shots on goal. The Bulldogs finished with five corner kicks, but the Lady Hubs drew Streator-Woodland offsides on nine different occasions in the match. Rochelle scored the opening goal of the match, with Cervantes assisting Lara during the fifth minute to put the Lady Hubs ahead 1-0. The Bulldogs responded with a goal during the 14th minute to make the score 1-1.

Streator-Woodland took the lead right before halftime, scoring during the 40th minute before shutting out the Lady Hubs in the second half to secure the nonconference victory. Lara finished with two shots on goal, while seniors Mavi Avila and Kailey Harris each had one shot on goal in the match.
