ROCHELLE — A scramble near the Yorkville goal allowed Lady Hub senior Olivia Piloni to score and help the Rochelle varsity girls soccer team avoid being shut out by the Foxes on Thursday.
Yorkville dominated the first half despite playing into the wind. The Foxes led 4-0 entering the second half, and Yorkvile held a six-goal lead before Piloni scored late in the second half. Rochelle fell by a final score of 6-1 to drop to 2-8-1 on the season. Junior Viviana Belmonte shined on defense for the Lady Hubs, recording a season and career-best 29 saves in net.
The Foxes utilized the wind advantage to charge against Rochelle early, scoring in the fifth minute to take a 1-0 lead before adding their second goal in the 16th minute. Yorkville continued to attack the middle of the Rochelle defense, scoring in the 25th minute before squeaking in another goal in the 40th minute to maintain a four-goal lead at halftime.
The Lady Hubs kept Yorkville at bay for roughly 25 minutes in the second half before the Foxes jumped ahead 5-0 with a goal in the 65th minute. After earning a free kick, sophomore Vianey Perusquia sent a ball over the middle of the Yorkville defense, and a misplay by the Fox keeper allowed Piloni to finesse her way into a goal in the 62nd minute.
The Foxes sealed the victory with their final goal in the 77th minute. Yorkville finished 35-for-46 in shots on goal during the game, while Rochelle went 5-for-6 in the same category.
