DEKALB — Families can kick off their holiday season with a tour of the elegantly decorated Ellwood House in DeKalb. Guest may view the historic home of barbed-wire baron Isaac Ellwood in a new light, and enjoy festive decorations on four floors of the 1879 mansion.

Visitors will enjoy live music as they tour the three-story home. Tour guides will be stationed on each level to share the history of the Ellwood family. In the Visitor Center, guests can enjoy visits with Santa, shopping, refreshments, and five history exhibits on display.

Hours of operation for the event are Friday, Dec. 6, from 6-9 p.m.., Saturday, Dec. 7, from 1-5 p.m.., and Sunday, Dec. 8, from 1-5 p.m. The last entry to the mansion is 30 minutes before close.

Admission to Holiday Traditions is $10 for adults and $5 for youth ages 6-17 (free for 5 and younger). Tickets may be purchased in advance at www.ellwoodhouse.org or during the event in the Ellwood House Visitor Center.

The Ellwood House Museum reflects the central role of Isaac Ellwood in the development of the barbed wire industry in America. The magnificent estate testifies to his aptitude for business and the breadth of his vision. It also reflects the tastes of multiple generations of the Ellwood family who guided the evolution of the grounds and structures.
