Cordoba, Baez lead way at Oregon invitatonal run

OREGON — Sterling dominated the Oregon 7-Person Cross Country Invitational meet held Wednesday, Sept. 11 at Oregon Park West.
Four Golden Warrior runners placed in the top six spots to lead the team to a first-place score of 9, edging out Illinois Math and Science Academy which ended in second place with 13 points.
Rochelle finished in third place with a team score of 27, while Sterling Newman was fourth with 28 points, Rockridge was fifth with 35 and host Oregon ended in sixth with 38 points.
Matthew Torres of IMSA won the event with a time of 18:05.2, Tyler Kibling of Rockridge placed second with a time of 18:12.5. Four Sterling runners placed third through sixth which propelled the team to first place.

Rochelle’s top runner at the event was Santiago Cordoba, who finished 11th with a time of 19:43.9, while Josue Huerta placed 12th with a time of 19:47.9. Hub teammates Tucker Louis (20:27.3) and Seth Gould (21:10.5) placed 17th and 20th, respectively.
Rochelle’s David Wanner (21:16.4) placed 23rd, while Parker Hale came in 36th with a time of 23:39.8 and Forrest Gerber was 37th with a time of 23:43.5.
Girls results
Sterling also claimed first place in the girls team event with a low total of 8, while Oregon was second with 19 points and Rockridge placed third with 35 points.
Rochelle did not field enough runners to qualify for the team event at the 7-Person competition, but two runners participated as individuals.
Brittany Baez posted a time of 23:26.6 to place eighth overall, and Sarah Johnson finished in 19th place with a time of 24:50.8
