GARNAVILLO, Iowa — Connie E. Hanson, 67, of Garnavillo, Iowa, passed away at her home surrounded by her family on Monday, April 3, 2017 following an extended illness. She was born June 27, 1949 in Urbana, the daughter of Henry and Annette (Loschen) Uden. She was a graduate of Rantoul High School in 1967 and completed study at Parkland Junior College in Champaign.
She married Bruce Hanson on Aug. 16, 1969 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Flatville. Connie worked as a teacher’s aide in public schools and in daycare centers in Dubuque while putting her husband through school and the seminary. Connie’s lifelong ministry of example has centered around her progressive diabetes. This involved a gift of a living kidney from a longtime friend, and now kidney sister, Marcia 10 years ago. In the years following she continued to struggle with additional health issues but in spite of it all managed to maintain her sense of humor that everyone loved. She continued to enjoy sharing stories and communicating in German with her siblings.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Rev. Bruce Hanson of Garnavillo; her daughter, Angela (Jim) Primrose of Rochelle; her son, Aaron (Ivory) Hanson of Davenport, Iowa; her brothers, Leland (Linda) Uden of Chatham, and Kevin (Karen) Uden of Mahomet; her sisters, Pamela (Lyle) Way of Indianapolis, Ind., and Vicki (Timothy) Kenyon of LaSalle Peru; brother-in-law Craig (Carolyn) Hanson, sisters-in-law, Karen Malocha and Jane Becker; and grandchildren, Katelyn and Derek Primrose, DaJae Hanson, Tzion Kirk, Chava and Deja Dominque.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be Saturday, April 8 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Reverends Gary Hatcher, Darrel Garrietts and Wayne Ellingson officiating, with burial in the Garnavillo City Cemetery both in Garnavillo. Friends may call on Friday, April 7 from 5 to 7 p.m. and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the St. Croix Hospice Program or the American Diabetes Assn.
The Garrity Funeral Home of Prairie du Chien, Wis., is assisting the family.
