College, Northwestern Medicine suspend EMS educational program

Posted

MALTA — After careful consideration, Kishwaukee College and Northwestern Medicine have agreed to temporarily suspend the EMS educational program at Kishwaukee College for EMT and Paramedic professionals within the Northwestern Medicine (NM) Kishwaukee Hospital EMS System for a period of one year.

The program will be suspended beginning with the Fall 2019 semester and will resume with the Fall 2020 semester. The intent over the course of that year is to work with Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital, Kishwaukee College, the CoAEMSP Advisory committee and key stakeholders to align the Program model of delivery with other EMS programs within the Northwestern Memorial HealthCare system to best meet the needs of the students and the community.

Under the accreditation requirements, Kishwaukee College provides the college credit and academic and student support services within the local area. The EMS System provides medical oversite and direction to the Program.

Current paramedic students will complete their training in Summer 2019.
