ROCHELLE – Americold Logistics and Walgreens came together on Thursday, May 29 – Red Nose Day– to help support the Rochelle Christian Food Pantry and fight child hunger.
A drive was set up at the Americold facilities in town, and employees made donations of food and paper goods.
“The food bank said one of the most important things was to get some paper goods, because that is stuff you can’t buy using the government provided assistance,” said Andrew Brown, Americold office supervisor.
The drive took place for two days with employees bringing in any donations they could. For every five or more items donated, the employee would have their name entered into a raffle for small prizes.

“We have a small cooler for the summertime and we have a gift card to headons, the butcher shop in Creston,” Brown added.
This is the first drive of its kind at Americold, but after seeing the participation of the employees, company officials have plans to make it an annual event.
“The event is going fantastic, our guys really brought it,” said Sue Simpson, Americold customer service representative. “They all like to pitch in and just help out the community.”
The food donations were aimed at helping out the Rochelle Christian Food Pantry, but the profits from the red noses were used to help fight child hunger all across the country.
“All of the donations that we received are going to the local food bank and $1.80 from every one of the red noses sold goes to help end child hunger nationwide,” Simpson explained.
Walgreens Red Nose Day has raised nearly $150 Million in the U.S. to help end child hunger.
Red noses are available to purchase at any Walgreens location for just $2.
