ROCHELLE — Rochelle resident Luke Cote celebrated his milestone 100th birthday on Sunday surrounded by family and friends at the Rochelle VFW Post 3878. The Post hosted a lunch and open house for Cote, a World War II Veteran who served in Italy and North Africa in the early 1940s.
Cote and brother, Bert, were both presented with a 70-year VFW 3878 membership pin and patch by past commander Guy Bays. Rochelle Mayor Chet Olson presented both of the gentlemen with a framed photo of the Hub Theater marquee proclaiming their birthdays. Luke is turning 100 on March 22, and Bert turned 95 last September.
VFW members Virgil Ewald and Dave Norris presented both of the brothers with a flag for their homes, including a folded flag for Luke.
