Boys Track: Hubs finish sixth at Gary Egler Invitational

Fresh-soph boys take third in eight-team meet

SYCAMORE — The Rochelle Hub track and field team battled at the Gary Egler Invitational on Wednesday, with the varsity team scoring 31 points and placing sixth out of eight schools. The fresh-soph team took third out of eight schools with 59.5 points in the competition.

Junior Landon Mickley finished second in the shot put with a personal-best throw of 12.58 meters and sophomore Jack Tilton finished second in the high jump with a clearance of 1.73 meters. Senior Ethan Bergeson took fifth in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.05 meters and freshman Caden Goodwin placed sixth in the triple jump with a distance of 10.34 meters.

Rochelle’s 3200-meter relay team (Thomas Koziol, Abel Huerta, Luis Hernandez and Declan McGee) took third with a time of 9:53.62. The Hubs finished fifth in the 640-meter relay (Jackson Smith, Reece Harris, Miles Hunley and Jack Tilton) with a time of 1:23.50 and seventh in the 1600-meter relay (Thomas Koziol, Luis Hernandez, Parker Slattengren and Levi Waddle) with a time of 4:29.39. Hernandez placed fifth in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:08.81.

Junior Abel Huerta took seventh in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:36.40 and senior Landon DeLille finished ninth in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.44 seconds. DeLille placed sixth in the shot put with a throw of 11.29 meters and Koziol took seventh in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:37.08. Sophomore Chris Hickey finished 10th in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:04.95 and senior Emil Rodriguez was sixth in the 3200-meter run with a time of 13:17.76.

Freshman Caleb Dreska finished fourth in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.70 seconds and third in the long jump with a distance of 5.49 meters. Freshman Wyatt Worthington placed sixth in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 10.97 seconds and third in the triple jump with a distance of 9.89 meters. Freshman Miles Hunley took fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.19 seconds and freshman Parker Slattengren was fifth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:41.80.

Freshman Declan McGee finished third in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:23.92 and freshman Andrew Nuyen took fourth in the pole vault with a clearance of 2.30 meters. Sophomores Jack Tarvestad and Colton Czekala placed third and fourth in the shot put with respective throws of 10.95 meters and 10.31 meters. Rochelle’s 1600-meter relay (Wyatt Worthington, Jackson Smith, Declan McGee and Elijah Mayen) was second in 4:11.66.

The Hubs finished fourth in the 3200-meter relay (Parker Slattengren, Chris Castellanos, Alexavier Villatoro and Elijah Mayen) with a time of 11:35.24 and fifth in the 640-meter relay (Andrew Nuyen, Caden Goodwin, Andrew Johnson and Jorge Martinez) with a time of 1:32.36.
