FREEPORT — The Rochelle varsity tennis team put its top six players up against Freeport in a combined singles-doubles nine-point format during nonconference play on Monday. Senior Emilio Nava locked down one point at No. 1 singles, topping Colbe Yoder 10-6. The Hubs dropped their remaining matches, however, losing 8-1 to the Pretzels and dropping to 0-9 on the season.
Senior Hector Garcia fell 8-10 against Caden Geiser at No. 2 singles, while junior Sean Flanagan lost 7-10 against Colton Theis at No. 3 singles. Freshman Jason Zheng went scoreless against Carter Shockey (0-10) at No. 4 singles, and senior Diego Lopez fell to Graham Mitchell at No. 5 singles 7-10. Senior Alex Galambos took one point in a 1-10 loss to Dylan Holbert at No. 6 singles.
Rochelle and Freeport played three doubles matches, with the Pretzels going 3-0 overall. Colbe Yoder and Caden Geiser topped Emilio Nava and Hector Garcia 10-7 at No. 1 doubles, while Colton Theis and Carter Shockey bested Sean Flanagan and Alex Galambos 10-1 at No. 2 doubles. Graham Mitchell and Dylan Holbert took down Jason Zheng and Diego Lopez 10-2 at No. 3 doubles.
