The Hubs tied for eighth place at the sectional with zero points, finishing scoreless alongside Rock Falls and Mendota.

STERLING — Rochelle Township High School hosted the IHSA Class 1A Sectional at Sterling’s Westwood Sports Complex this past Friday and Saturday. The event was moved due to poor weather conditions. The Hubs tied for eighth place at the sectional with zero points, finishing scoreless alongside Rock Falls and Mendota.
Rochelle freshman Jason Zheng and junior Sean Flanagan represented the Hubs in the singles tournament. Zheng faced Newman Central Catholic’s Jonathan Rhodes in the second round, losing by a score of 1-6, 0-6. Flanagan battled Sterling’s Grant Bright in the second round, falling 2-6, 0-6 in the match.
Four Rochelle players competed in the doubles tournament includes seniors Hector Garcia, Emilio Nava, Diego Lopez and Caden Manning. Nava and Garcia faced Sterling’s Andrew Ivarson and Nathaniel Stout in the second round, taking the Golden Warriors three sets but falling by a score of 6-4, 4-6, 6-7(4). Lopez and Manning took on Newman Central Catholic’s Jacob Terveer and Isaac Blaney in the second round, losing 0-6, 0-6.
