MAPLE PARK — The Rochelle boys soccer team faced Kaneland in the Interstate 8 Conference Championship semifinals on Thursday. The second-seeded Knights took the early lead and controlled the second half to win 4-1 over the third-seeded Hubs.
Rochelle dropped to 11-5 overall with the loss. The Hubs will play Ottawa for third place this Saturday at 10 a.m.
Rochelle struggled to start the match, but the Hubs rallied late in the first half when junior midfielder Zane Walters connected with senior forward Max Torres through the middle of the Kaneland penalty box for an equalizer in the 35th minute to tie the match 1-1. The Knights bounced back quickly, however, scoring on a redirected penalty kick in the 39th minute. Kaneland extended its lead with goals in the 59th and 65th minutes to seal the victory.
