ROCHELLE — Alice A. Reed, 83, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at OSF St. Anthony Hospital in Rockford. Alice was born on Sept. 20, 1934 to Emmett and Augusta (Jahn) Tilton in Rochelle. She married Melvin C. Reed on March 17, 1956 in Rochelle.
Alice worked as a secretary at Tilton Elementary School for many years. During her retirement, she had many hobbies: sewing, reading, crafts, puzzles and playing cards. But what she enjoyed most was spending time with her family and friends. Alice cherished her retirement trips with her husband, Dale and Connie Vogeler, and Jack and Lois Graf.
Alice was a life member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary and participated in two Bridge Clubs, and a 500 Club.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Daniel Tilton; sister, Ann Pierce; and two nephews, David Pierce and Randy Rowley.
Alice is survived by her husband of 61 years, Melvin Reed, of Rochelle; son, Rick (Elizabeth) Reed of Rochelle; three grandchildren, Paul (Samantha) Reed, Ryan Reed and Sara (Camryn) Bell; six great-grandchildren, Alex Greer, Ethan Reed, Marlee Reed, Nowell Reed, Charlee Bell and Camryn Bell; a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.
The visitation will be from 1:30 – 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 10 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. Sixth St., Rochelle. The funeral will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor David Rogula officiating. Burial will be held in Washington Grove Cemetery in Chana.
After the burial, a luncheon will follow at the Rochelle V.F.W., 318 4th Ave. Memorials may be made in Alice’s memory to Washington Grove Cemetery . Visitwww.ungerhorner.com to sign the online guest book.
