ROCHELLE — Three generations of family members watched as bulldozers removed large chunks of the Caron International building from Rochelle soil.

As the large cement letters that read “Caron International” slid off the brick wall from the bulldozer’s impact, mother and daughter, Pauline and Yvonne Brass, watched and thought about the impact that their family’s factory had on the people of Rochelle in its hey day. The former yarn company’s building has sat idle along Avenue E since 1995.

“Young people were driving by as the building was being demolished had no idea what it used to be,” said Pauline, who is also the niece of the yarn factory owner, O.J. Caron. “So many of them don’t know important it was to Rochelle’s history.”
