HUB Project gearing up for “Jumpstart”

AUG. 15 will officially mark a year since the “HUB Project” program was granted to Rochelle students. In a year of many firsts for the program, the HUB Project is also hosting summer programming for the first time. These summer programs Similar to the afterschool programming that serves to enrich and academically catch up students.

“Our goal with the HUB Project, with its fall and summer programming, is to close educational gaps for some of our students. In order to accomplish that, you need time and money and the grant we received covered that,” explained program director Jodee Craven.

Craven organizes the schedules and criteria for the program, which includes 18 teachers from within the elementary school district and 25 employees hired through cosponsor Flagg-Rochelle Park District. The program currently has 200 students enrolled between grades kindergarten through eighth grade. Fall numbers are expected to exceed that amount. The grant supporting this program was contracted for five years and has a little more than four left.
