ROCHELLE — In 1897, Rochelle Post 546 of the Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.) obtained a G.A.R. cannon gun that was used during the Civil War. In 1899, The post officially dedicated the cannon in front of the old city and town hall as “a monument to loyalty, patriotism, liberty, justice, equal rights and good citizenship”.

On Sunday, June 30 at 2 p.m. on the grounds of the Flagg Township Museum, Civil War Historian Terry Dyer and The Sons of Veterans of the Civil War, John A. Logan Camp No. 26, of Rockford will reenact the dedication ceremony that took place in 1899. The Sons of Veterans No. 26 was charted in 2007. Their primary purpose is to preserve the gravesites and monuments of importance remembrance of those who served in the Civil War.
