ROCHELLE – Several months ago, a member of the Greater Rochelle Economic Development Corporation board approached the Rochelle Elementary District Board of Education requesting a five-year tax abatement on the Fairway’s Golf Course it is currently running, and last week at June’s regularly scheduled board meeting, it took the board members some time before coming to a conclusion.
The City of Rochelle and Flagg-Rochelle Community Park District purchased the Rochelle golf course property and leased the course to GREDCO to manage and operate. In order to provide capital improvements and increased marketing for the golf course, it is anticipated that GREDCO will have operating losses for the first few years of management. The abatement, according to Dale Meyers, of GREDCO, would be to help defer those losses.
