ROCHELLE — Rotary handed the Kiwanis club its first loss of the season Wednesday night in a wild 10-9 roller-coaster game that ended up going nine innings.

Kiwanis jumped out to a big 6-0 lead in the top of the first, but Rotary came right back with six runs of its own to tie the game up.

Kiwanis added two more runs in the top of the second, while Rotary got one back in the third inning to make it an 8-7 game. Kiwanis scored one run in the fifth to make it 9-7, but in the bottom of the sixth with its back against the wall, Rotary pushed across two runs to send the game into extra innings.

Defense and pitching reigned during the extra play, as both teams were held scoreless for nearly three full innings. However, with two outs and a runner on second in the bottom of the ninth, Rotary’s Zack Bernardin knocked home the winning run on a single into left field.
