LEE/OGLE COUNTY—In an effort to explain upcoming license requirements for paraprofessionals within the area, the Lee/Ogle Regional Office of Education 47 will host two informational meetings on Thursday, May 9, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. and again on Thursday, June 6, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
“Paraprofessionals in the area, whether they are currently employed or not, should attend to hear about the changes that will affect them come July of this year,” said certification officer Sherrie Pistol.
Pistol said that unlike now, where paraprofessionals can assist classrooms with approval, the Illinois State Board of Education has recently made it mandatory to hold a Professional Educator License with Stipulations (PELS). This license will cost $50 and have to be renewed every five years.
