ROCHELLE — Poor field conditions due to rain have forced Rochelle Little League officials to postpone the Opening Day ceremonies that were scheduled for this Saturday, May 4.
A board meeting is being held Friday night to finalize event details, but the make-up date and time for the ceremonies has tentatively been set for next Friday, May 10 at 5 p.m. at the Little League complex.
“The fields were in bad shape already and now with today’s rain and more expected, we just can’t keep up and have the fields ready for Saturday,” stated league vice-president Jason Knight. “So, we looked at the dates and believe next Friday night is the best time to hold the ceremonies for the public and all the outside groups involved.”
Knight said more details will be released after tonight’s meeting.
Due to the situation, the fundraiser sales deadline will be extended and players now have another week to sell the special 3-month News-Leader subscriptions which provides $8 to Little League for each one sold!
All packets will be due on Friday, May 10 and the News-Leader will have a table set up for coaches and players to return their packets on that night, including the sign up sheets and money.
The top seller wins a limo trip for 4 people to Wrigley Field in August to see the Cubs vs. Los Angeles Dodgers! Many other prize drawings are also being held with the fundraiser and every player who sells at least one subscription will be eligible for a prize.
