DEKALB — It was a special weekend for many reasons for the girls varsity soccer team. The Lady Hubs not only scored their first goal of the season on Saturday in the second half of the Barbfest Varsity Soccer Tournament at DeKalb, they also recorded their first win.
“It was great to see the girls come together and pick up the win,” Rochelle head coach Keith Lamb said. “They have gotten so much better since the beginning of the season, and I hope this tournament proved to the girls that they are a good team.”
Rochelle’s first game on Saturday was its best effort as it defeated Hall Township 7-0 with sophomore Abbey Marquez leading the way.
Marquez scored Rochelle’s first point of the season in the 17th minute, assisted by Abi Carlson. Two minutes later, Aimee Zepeda scored unassisted and in the 24th minute, Carlson scored one of her own, this time assisted by Maddie Hanson.
