LANDENBERG, Penn. — Betty J. Root (nee Harpel) 89, of Landenberg, Penn., New Garden Township, Chester County, formerly of Sinking Spring, Penn., passed away April 17, 2013 at 10:50 p.m. in her residence surrounded by her loving family.
She was the wife of the late Roy H. Root who passed away Nov. 18, 2004.
She was born in Sinking Spring, the daughter of the late Richard and Marie (Cake) Harpel. She spent her early adult life in Bernville, Penn., before moving to Rochelle, where she resided for 37 years before returning to Pennsylvania.
Mrs. Root is survived by her children, Bonnie L. Keener and her husband Donald E. Keener of Albuquerque, N.M., James R. Luckenbill and his loving companion Charlene Getrost of Sinking Spring, Kelly M. Root and her loving companion Tom P. Joyce of Landenberg, Penn., and Jeffrey T. Root and his wife Rosann Root of Chicago.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Joshua A. Keener, Amanda B. Kennedy and Jamee R. Luckenbill along with four great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Root was preceded in death by her siblings, Mary Fritz, Edna Barth and Richard “Pete” Harpel.
Services were held in the Chapel at Laureldale Cemetery, 4631 Pottsville Pike, Laureldale, on Saturday, April 20 at 11 a.m. Entombment was in Laureldale Cemetery Mausoleum.
The family received friends at the Chapel at Laureldale Cemetery on Saturday, April 20 from 10to 11 a.m.
