Rain changes pace of match for Hubs in loss at Ottawa

Posted: Friday, Apr 19th, 2013

ROCHELLE — The Hubs dropped to 3-3 on the year after losing a tough match to Ottawa in front of a home crowd Tuesday afternoon.

“We endured an hour and a half rain delay after only playing for about 20 minutes,” said Rochelle head coach Mike Pence. “It was a real challenge to gear back up mentally after that. It was disappointing because this was our best chance to beat an Ottawa team and we didn’t take advantage of the opportunity.”

At the number one doubles slot, Brandon Jones and Charlie Duval picked up a hard fought victory over seniors Tyler Lindemann and Clayton Conners. They were the only varsity victories of the day for Rochelle.

“Charlie and Brandon’s match was awesome,” Pence said. “They kept fighting and kept encouraging each other and never lost confidence even after losing a tight first set and falling behind in the second. What a great match to watch.”

In the number two doubles match, seniors Michael Belmonte and Brandon Perez kept it close all game, but in the end were not able to pull out the win against Pirates Kris Feltz and Nolan McCarkle.
