ROCHELLE—It didn’t take quite a whole village, but it did take some collaborative effort to educate and entertain 60 fifth through eighth grade Rochelle students on the afternoon of Friday, March 22.

After school, students in the HUB Project program traveled to Rochelle Airport where they experienced more than two hours of demonstrations and hands on learning, courtesy of Rochelle Aiport employees, Chicagoland Skydiving Center, Kishwaukee Education Consortium flight program and Kishwaukee Flyers.

HUB Project manager Jodee Craven said that she is always looking for ideas to keep the kids informed and engaged with the program. In order to take the project a step further and focus on aviation, Craven called on the local flight community for help.

“She wanted to do incorporate aviation into the learning program, so we jumped on it,” said Kishwaukee Education Consortium Aviation Flight Program director and registered pilot Bruce Griffiths.

“I started flying when I was 16 and thought kids should be aware of aviation as well as the airport in their local community,” he added.
