U of I Extension office visits HUB students

ROCHELLE—The University of Illinois Extension office now services a wider area, including Ogle, DeKalb and Boone counties. As a part of their many services, the extension office educates children on agriculture-related matters.

In doing so, four members from the Oregon office visited Rochelle schools on Wednesday evening in the “HUB Project” after school program.

In order to teach the sixth through eighth grade students about nature, the extension employees brought tubs of natural soil that included organic matter. Peggy Doty, from the office, instructed the participating children to dig through the soil to find the living organisms that wriggled below. Such finds included earthworms, centipedes and more.
