ROCHELLE — Last year, spring came early and the Lady Hubs were able to play all 35 of their scheduled games. This year, with already seven games canceled due to poor weather, the Lady Hubs will be lucky if they play 25 games.

“We just want to get outside. There’s only so much you can do in a gym,” Rochelle head softball coach Adrian Smith said. “In my 13 years being involved with softball at RTHS, this is the worst spring we have ever had.”

The Lady Hubs struggled a bit during the season but finished the year on a positive note by handily defeating Freeport 9-2 in the first round of the regional playoffs. It is that game that Smith would like to see his girls build off of and remember.

“I think making it to the regional championship was very rewarding to the girls,” Smith said.

Returning four and welcoming two new seniors to the lineup, Smith is also looking forward to the leadership and field experience this year’s team will bring.
