OREGON — The Ogle County Board voted to not only purchase property in Oregon but also sell some in Rochelle.
After a lengthy closed session the board voted to purchase one parcel north of the Judicial Center, get an appraisal of an adjoining parcel and sell four acres of land in the Rochelle.
In a roll call vote of 17-4 the board voted to purchase 501 W. Washington Street, Oregon with the price for the property is not to exceed $150,000 plus costs related to the acquisition. The property currently houses a BBQ restaurant. The restaurant leases the building and its lease expires on July 1. Board chairman Kim Gouker stated the county intends on honoring the lease and possibly extending it.
“We don’t need the property that quickly,” he stated. “We are interested in the land, not the business. At the same time the county doesn’t want to be a long-term landlord.”
