ROCHELLE — Disc golf has gained in popularity over the past few years as players find it a relaxing and inexpensive way to recreate while also enjoying a walk in the natural beauty of a scenic setting.
Local residents who want to learn and play regularly won’t have to travel far to get the opportunity, as the Flagg-Rochelle Community Park District will soon be offering the sport at Skare Park just west of town.
At Monday night’s regular park board meeting, executive director Eric Christensen told the commissioners that he hopes to have holes (baskets) in place by the end of April and open the course up to the public by early May.
“Most of the clearing for the holes has been done by a volunteer disc golf enthusiast from DeKalb who is interested in seeing the course developed,” Christensen said. “Also, the DeKalb group is going to bring over some portable baskets so we can test out how each of the holes play before deciding on permanent locations for them.”
