Demmer talks gun rights, concealed carry law proposals

Posted: Wednesday, Mar 13th, 2013

State Representative Tom Demmer speaks with concerned residents on the concealed carry issue.

ROCHELLE—In order to abide by second amendment rights within the U.S. Constitution, the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals is urging the State of Illinois agree on regulations for concealed carry June 9. Despite this definite deadline, the decision-making process on the matter has been anything but clear, according to State Representative Tom Demmer in his Rochelle Town Hall meeting with Ogle County residents on Friday night.

“This has been a busy week and I saw that this issue was important to people. A Friday night meeting isn’t ideal but was necessary, as I receive a huge number of response e-mails, calls and visitors on the concealed carry issue,” he said.

Demmer opened the floor to the well-attended meeting when he explained that the circuit court gave the state 180 days to map out regulations. Missing this deadline is evidently not an option.
