HILLCREST — The Hillcrest Fire Department aims to make the community a better place and is giving back to the area by hosting a mobile food pantry.
The Northern Illinois Mobile Food Pantry will be at the Hillcrest Fire Station, 223 Powers Road, on Friday, March 15 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Any low income individuals or families are eligible to receive food. Donations are given on a honor system and no proof of residency, identity or income is needed to receive food.
Joelle Builta, event organizer, said they are hoping to feed 100 to 150 individuals through the two-hour mobile food pantry. She does not know what types of food will be available because the Northern Illinois Food Pantry relies on donations to distribute and the items vary from pantry to panty. However, she said the food will be nutritious.
