STERLING — On Saturday, Feb. 9, the St. Ambrose Fighting Bees earned their first Midwest Collegiate Men’s Track and Field Indoor Conference Title since 2010 and their third all-time by holding off two-time defending champion Grand View University.
St. Ambrose earned victories in nine of the 18 contests events for a total of 226.5 points, defeating Grand View by nearly 20 points.
Among the event winners were former Hub track star, sophomore Joseph Torres, who won the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.62 seconds.
Torres was also a member of the Fighting Bee 400-meter relay team that finished second to Grand View with a time of 3:29.18.
Torres was also very close to winning first place in the high jump, finishing the day with a jump of 6’4 3/4.” Torres tied senior and fellow Fighting Bee, Kaz Johnson, who only edged Torres on misses.
