Eighth-graders take second place at tourney

ROCHELLE — The eighth grade Junior Hubs finished second overall at the ninth-annual Rochelle Take it to the Hoop Basketball Tournament at Rochelle Township High School over the weekend.

The boys won five games over Friday and Saturday before eventually falling 44-32 to the Geneva Junior Vikings in a hard fought final.

“I was very proud of these kids,” said eighth grade coach Jeff Gould. “They played hard all weekend with a relentless determined spirit.”

The Junior Hubs started out the tournament a little slow against the Belvidere North Blue Thunder, but they turned up the defensive pressure and recorded 12 steals in the second half to out-score their opponents and notch a win.
