ROCKFORD—S. Joanne Eyster, 81, of Rockford, passed away Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013 in Willows Health Center. She was born Nov. 4, 1931, in Lee County, the daughter of Howard and Mabel (Petry) Ritchie.
She is a graduate of Rochelle Township High School, class of 1949. Joanne married Marvin Eyster on May 24, 1953 in First Presbyterian Church, Rochelle.
Joanne attended Swedish American School of Nursing receiving her RN in 1952. She worked for Swedish American Hospital from 1952 through 1956 as a registered nurse. She was a member of Third Presbyterian Church Women’s Association, Dorcas Circle, was the assistant financial secretary of the church for many years. She held many other offices in the church. Joanne was also a member of Swedish American Alumnae Association and Midway Village Museum. The Eyster family’s former home at 6879 Guilford Rd., Rockford for over 50 years became a part of Midway Village Museum in September 2012.
Joanne enjoyed traveling in their motorhome, visiting family, touring national parks, and hiking. She also liked sewing, making quilts and cross-stitching.
She is survived by her husband, Marvin, of Rockford; daughters, Kathy Eyster of Montana and Charleen Boudreau of Peoria; son, Ritchie Eyster of Texas; daughter-in-law, Catherine Eyster; grandchildren, Beth, Diana, Forest; step-grandchildren, Amanda, and Hope; and her sister, Delores’ children, Ben (Brenda) Eyster and Dan (Barb) Eyster.
She was predeceased by her parents; sister, Delores Eyster; and brother-in-law, John Eyster.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15 in Third Presbyterian Church, 1221 Custer Avenue, Rockford, with Rev. Murray Hanson officiating. Burial will be in White Rock Cemetery, Ogle County. Visitation will be from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Friday prior to the service in the church.
