ROCHELLE — Schools across Illinois will be facing off on Saturday, not to test athletic skill, but rather test the brains of local students.
The Illinois Masonic Academic Bowl is an “academic knowledge competition” sponsored by Masons of Illinois and coordinated through the Grand Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of the State of Illinois. The Rochelle Masonic Lodge is sponsoring Rochelle Township High School and Ashton Franklin Center in the state-wide event.
Tom Hill, RTHS academic team coach, said the team consists of 12 students but only six will compete in the tournament on Saturday.
This Saturday, Rochelle will head to Belvidere North High School to compete in the Class AA sectional against 11 other schools.
The tournament will take place in a round-robin format with each academic team competing against the others at the sectional tournament site.
