ROCHELLE — As it does each February, the Rochelle Rotary Club challenges Rochelle Township High School and Rochelle Middle School students to spend the month reading. Employing RTHS Principal Travis McGuire’s mantra, Rotarians ‘turned it up a degree’ this year, employing a district grant to add incentive.

“We are very excited about this year’s Reading Challenge, our fourth,” RTHS Library Media Center Director Ann Marie Jinkins said. “Rotarian Ann Rice found a district Rotary grant. She asked D231 Library Services Director Eric Welles and I to write letters of support. The grant was funded!”

“It was a $1,500 matching grant which will allow us RTHS and Rochelle Middle School, more money for library materials,” Rice said.

The program is set up so that RTHS receives $1 for every book students read, up to 1,000. The middle school receives $500.
