CRESTON — The extensive water meter replacement project throughout Creston continues, but there is an end in sight.

On Tuesday, trustees agreed to finish the project by Oct. 1 and agreed to borrow funds from the village’s “Landfill Tipping Fee Fund” to pay for the estimated $60,000 project .

The trustees also approved Anderson Plumbing to continue the water meter work, as a few trustees noted that they had “great service” and were pleased with the flat-rate fees. Anderson Plumbing has already installed between 40 to 50 meters so far, and will finish the remaining 185 meters at a flat rate.

Board president Tom Byro said that the tipping fee fund was a fund that he set aside for the village in times of need. He said that this project was appropriate “need” and that the water fund will have to pay back the loan with interest, as they would with any other kind of loan. The alternative was to take out a bank loan, but the trustees agreed to use the funds that were already owned by the village.
