RTHS committee discusses future of district’s bus garages

ROCHELLE — On Monday afternoon, members of the Rochelle Township High School finance committee gathered to discuss improving bus-housing facilities and listened to a webinar presentation on a data software program that would help enhance the school’s budget system.

The subject of improving the housing for buses was complicated, as the project will be expensive. Some of the suggestions included updating the old facilities, building new ones and parking buses outside and fencing around them.

The district currently has two bus garage buildings. The north building is owned by RTHS and the south building is owned by Rochelle Elementary District 231. Both buildings are deteriorating and have become cramped with the newer style buses being longer than the old models. The bus barns were erected in the early 1970s.

The issue of cramped space was the largest concern.
