ROCHELLE — Continuing to preserve and develop the natural beauty at Skare Park were the core of a presentation given to the Flagg-Rochelle Community Park District on Monday night by Andy Stahr, an ecologist of the company Ecology + Vision.
Through an impressive slide presentation, Stahr laid out a long-term, three-phase plan to continue removing invasive secondary growth species, reintroduce the historical natural species that inhabited the land in the mid-1800s, and finally expand on features throughout the park to interest and draw area residents and visitors.
“We researched a lot of records dating back to the 1840s,” Stahr explained. “There are not many parcels of land like this in Ogle County. What you have here is a unique eco-system of prairie, wetlands and timber all in a one area.”
