ROCHELLE—Last Monday kicked off the start of the new “HUB Project” afterschool program for students from the ages of kindergarten through eighth grade. The program is held for different age groups at Central, May and Rochelle Middle schools and serves to provide as a platform for extra study time and fun activities for children in need of its services.

The new program, initiated through the help of individuals throughout the community, Rochelle schools and Flagg-Rochelle Park District, invites guest speakers to further engage the students.

The first guests to visit the HUB Project students were interpreters from Rockford’s Midway Village Museum, who visited Philip May School students on Friday after school. This Midway Village presentation was the first of more to come in their “Traveling Trunks” education program. Saunders and Bartlon, both part-time employees, visit different schools throughout the greater Rockford area.
