ROCHELLE — Throughout the Midwest, high schools are gearing up for the upcoming track and field season, but for those student-athletes who are still competing at the collegiate level, the season has already begun.
There are a number of Rochelle Township High School graduates who are currently competing for collegiate track teams and already finding success in the still very young season.
Jen Jenkins, a senior Redbird at Illinois State University, began her track season at the Redbird Open Indoor Invitational on Dec. 8 of last year, picking up a first place in the long jump and a second in the triple. She jumped a distance of 11.15 meters in the triple and an impressive 5.44 meters to win the long jump.
Jenkins’ had her second meet of the season on Saturday, Jan. 12 at the Rose-Hulman Terre Haute Double Dual Meet. She placed fourth in both the long jump and the triple jump with distances of 5.17 and 10.86 meters, respectively. She also finished eighth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.37 seconds.
