ROCHELLE — The Rock River Valley Blood Bank is a regular visitor to the City of Rochelle throughout the year. On Tuesday, Jan. 8, the mobile blood bank visited again where it accepted donors and parked in front of Xpressions Salon. Unfortunately, the donor turnout was not as busy as usual.

According to donor recruiter, Jaclyn Thomson, this was expected, as January tends to be a slow donation month. She accredits this mostly to the fact that the month of January is in the middle of cold and flu season.

“We usually receive less donors at this point in the year, which is too bad because January is National Blood Donor Month. Some of our donors have colds or the flu and are not physically able to donate,” said Thomson.

Thomson also said that because of the lower turnouts over the winter months the supply of O negative blood has been hard to come by.
