DEKALB — The Barbs tried to break away from Rochelle all night, but the battered Hubs held on and kept the game close despite falling 61-54 on Friday at DeKalb High School.
“I told the kids after the game that they gave it as good as an effort as I thought they could have,” Rochelle head coach Tim Thompson said. “There was no question about it. The kids played every minute like it was their last.”
DeKalb jumped out to a 4-0 lead to start the game, but with 4:24 seconds to go in the first quarter, junior Kole Smart put Rochelle’s first points on the board wit a basket from a step inside the three-point line.
DeKalb’s leading scorer and big man Andre Harris responded with his first bucket of the game, but Manning with a drive in layup with 3:31 to go followed by a three-pointer off of a step back that put the Hubs within one point at 10-9 with 1:50 left.
