ROCHELLE — The League of Women Voters is hosting Ralph Martire, executive director of the Center for Tax and Budget Accountability, on Thursday, Jan. 24 at 7 p.m. at the Rochelle Township High School auditorium for the free “Illinois State Budget Crisis” presentation.
Martire’s program will center with the structural issues that have contributed to the state’s fiscal problems, and the potential consequences these factors may have on the many services and programs the state provides.
“Illinois has serious budget deficits, and if they are not dealt with immediately in a fair and effective way, our state might face bankruptcy. All of our lives will be affected by what changes are made or not made,” he said. “Here is an opportunity for us to learn what needs to be done so that we can inform our politicians of what we want them to do to save our state.”
The Center for Tax and Budget Accountability is a bi-partisan research and advocacy think tank that promotes fair, efficient and progressive tax, spending and economic policies.
