DEKALB — Rochelle Township High School’s varsity boys basketball team picked up its only victory of the DeKalb Chuck Dayton Holiday Basketball Tournament Friday, defeating Chicago Schurz 64-63 after junior guard Tyler Joyce hit a shot at the buzzer for the win.

“That was a huge win for the kids,” Rochelle head coach Tim Thompson said. “I know they had been frustrated after losing close games to both Sterling and Moline, so it was nice to see one end in our favor. I am proud of how they hung on to this one.”

Rochelle came out of the gates slow, but managed to keep it close throughout the game with a full court press.

“Luke Manning really did a good job keeping us in the game offensively the first three quarters,” Thompson said, “and the kids pressed as good as they had all year.”
