Three die in copter crash

COMPTON — Three Rockford Health System REACT helicopter crew members are dead after their helicopter crashed south of Rochelle in a cornfield near Compton in Lee County at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Monday night.

Lee County Sheriff John Varga held a press conference late Monday night, indicating that authorities received a phone call prior to the crash about a possible distressed aircraft flying low to the ground.

While he was not at liberty to provide many details about the incident, the sheriff did confirm that a medical helicopter had crashed in the cornfield and there were no survivors.
