YORKVILLE — Rochelle fought hard to stay close to the Foxes Friday night, but despite the effort and the 69 points the boys in purple put up, Yorkville came out on top with a 78-69 victory.

“We were always on the verge of not being to handle them. They just kept forcing us into turnover after turnover,” Rochelle head coach Tim Thompson said. “Give them credit. They forced us into them, and they ended up beating us.”

Within the first two minutes of the first quarter, Yorkville got out to a quick 9-4 lead, and fueled by a very high-energy home crowd and full-court press, the Foxes began forcing a number of turnovers on Rochelle that kept the Hubs from scoring its next points for over two minutes.

“Their press really rattled us. All we had to do was relax and find the open man and we would have had a three-on-two situation nearly every time, Thompson said. “Instead, we ended up turning the ball over before we could find the open man.”

Finding the open man seemed to be an area where the Hubs struggled the most on Friday, committing 27 turnovers in the game, many of which turned into easy points for the Foxes.
