MORRIS — The Rochelle Township High School varsity wrestling team won its share of matches, but it wasn’t enough to leave Morris victorious on Thursday evening.
With the meet starting at the 160-pound-weightclass, Morris won the first five matches, but when Manny Rivera took to the mat for the 285-pound bout, Rochelle’s fortunes began to change as he pinned John Guistat in 1:08.
Jacob Meyers won next at 106 pounds. He pinned Ian Bernard in 0:51. Jeff Board was a winner at 113 pounds defeating Jake Crowther in a 5-3 decision.
Rochelle and Morris split the next four matches, drawing Rochelle and Morris nearly even with six and seven wins, respectively, despite Morris winning on points 46-24.
“The kids really took a step forward tonight,” Rochelle head coach Rich Harvey said. “They really wrestled well.”
